Original Description

"1. S. perantiqua.

Large. 1.25 by .60; costae, 12; margin, thick; lower tooth, prominent; upper, small. Found fossile in red earth near west coast of Great Guana Key, about 1 mile from southern end. Map 1, 1 [sic actually 2]. Probably contemporary with S. avita Mayn. an ancestor of all the species in this group. Plate 1, figs. 1 2. Rare, 25."
