Strophia pannosa Maynard, 1889a:10-11,pl.1,figs.2,13,pl.2,figs.1,1B,1D,1D.; Harasewych et al., 2007:375, fig. 1.

Original Description: Click to view

Geographic Distribution: Little Cayman, Cayman Islands.

Type Locality: West end of Little Cayman, Cayman Islands. [19° 39.495' N, 80° 6.5' W]

Type Material: Lectotype, MCZ 246343

Clench (1964:368) designated MCZ 246343 as lectotype. There is one paralectotype. The remaining 398 specimens have no status as types (Harasewych et al., 2007:375).

Hounsome and Askew (1980) reported C. nanus to occur in limited populations on Little Cayman, living only on the plant Evolvulus.  It co-occurs with C. pannosum on the same plant in some areas.  These authors conjecture that, over time, C. pannosum "might be expected to completely displace C. nanus from Little Cayman."
