Pilsbry and Vanatta (1895:4) listed this species as coming from Abaco Island. Gould and Woodruff (1978:fig. 1) indicated the only part of Great Abaco where shells of its morphology occur (the Crossing, Great Abaco), and synonymized all of the ribby morphotype taxa occurring on the Little Bahama Bank under C. abacoensis.
Baker (1963:206) designated the lectotype based on measurements and labeled it as ANSP 25337a. Now ANSP 25337. There are 4 paralectotypes, now ANSP 411926.
