Geographic Distribution: New Providence and Adjacent Islands, Bahama Islands.

Type Locality: Termination of Bay Street east to the Creek Settlement, Nassau, New Providence Island, Bahamas.

Type Material: Lectotype, MCZ 76286

There are 58 paralectotypes, including MCZ 356676 (14 specimens).

Remarks

Following Article 32.5.2.4 (ICZN, 1999:40) the hyphen is removed from varia-purpurea and the taxon becomes variapurpurea.  Gould and Woodruff (1986:478) regarded this taxon to be a synonym of Cerion gubernatorium (Crosse, 1869).
