Original Description

" Strophiops thompsoni.  Thompson Strophia. Not dissimilar to S. vetusta, but smaller, and with a smaller, narrower aperture.  Size, 1.05 by .45.  Occurs fossil in the rock on the south shore of Hog Island.  Examined 20.

     We have named this shell in honor of Mr. Chas. Thompson and his son Chas. S. Thompson of Nassau, both of whom have been of considerable assistance to us in our studies of this group." (Maynard and Clapp, 1915: 179)
