Limatula (Antarctolima) ovalis (Thiele, 1912) (Fig. 96)

Lima (Limatula) ovalis Thiele, 112: 226, pl.17. figs 5a, b; Lamy, 1931: 263.

Limatula ovalis: Hedley, 1916: 24; Soot-Ryen, 1951: 20; Powell, 1958: 177; Powell, 1960: 176; Dell, 1964a: 184; Egorova, 1982: 66, figs 289, 290.

Limatula (Squamilima) ovalis: Fleming, 1978: 82, fig. 99.

MATERIAL EXAMINED: Wilkes Stns DAV, TAT.

DISTRIBUTION: With the provisions noted below, L. ovalis appears to be confined to the region between 38°E and 143°E off the antarctic continent, and does not extend to the Ross Sea.

REMARKS: Whether all the forms recorded as L. ovalis are conspecific is uncertain. The form is undoubtedly related to L. pygmaea (Philippi) , but reaches only about a quarter the size, and has a relatively narrow, more inflated shell with more numerous, finer radial costae. On the present evidence it must be considered a valid species with a relatively restricted range.”
