MATERIAL EXAMINED: NZOI Stns A449, A450, A456, A468, A470, A520, A527, A528, A529, A530, A625; Stanford University Stns EAD-3, GLD-13; Arthur Harbour, Anvers Island, Antarctic Peninsula, 17 m, M.D. Richardson, Jan-Feb 1971; USNM 612795 [handwritten: 612817], 77°26'S, 169°30'E, McMurdo Sound, 321 m, 18 Feb 1956; USNM 638992, 77°06'S, 158' 17'W, 201 m, 24 Dec 1960.
DISTRIBUTION: Callochiton gaussi has been collected from the Ross Sea in 110-567 m. It is known elsewhere around the continent only from 89°E to 140ºE off the Antarctic Peninsula (10-640 m), and from off South Georgia (60-245 m) and Magellan Strait (0-5 m).
REMARKS: A number of specimens were preserved tightly rolled around echinoid spines or portions of elongate bryozoan colonies. It is probable that this is one of the normal habitats of this species.”
